A rabbi, a priest and a lawyer walk into a Greek myth…

So begins the story of the Minotaur, part man and part bull, who is trapped in the twisting labyrinth. His sister, Ariadne, betrays him. The hero, Theseus, aims to defeat him. In this smart and sexy modern retelling of this famous myth, playwright Anna Ziegler creates a whimsical, haunting and poignant world about how we write the stories of our own lives, and that love, just might, conquer all. By the theatre who brought you last season’s smash hit In the Next Room or the vibrator play, The Minotaur is a theatrical event not to be missed.

What is a Joint World Premiere?

Often, a playwright gets a full production of a show (the world premiere) but then has to wait for a year or more until a second theatre picks it up.

With the 'Joint World Premiere' model, theatres around the country are coming together to produce new work in a faster and more ambitious time frame.

How it works: 2 or more theatres come together and agree to produce the work within 12 months of each other. The playwright gets multiple productions with different artistic teams in a compressed time, which really gets the artistic juices flowing for a new play; and the theatres (and our audiences!) don't have to wait to see great work.

This year marks our 6th Joint Premiere in 6 years. The partnerships have each been unique and fruitful. In one case, we even sent a 'dead deer' to San Francisco and Seattle for the other productions to use!

We tip our hats to our national partners, and are proud to be helping bring new plays to life.

Our past Joint Premieres include:

Voices Underwater (with Serendipity Theatre - Chicago and Gas & Electric Arts - Philly)

Looking for the Pony (with Vital Theatre - NYC)

Angela's Mixtape (with New Georges - NYC)

Exit, Pursued by a Bear (with Curious Fire - San Francisco and ArtsWest - Seattle)

Feet First in the Water with a Baby in my Teeth (with Riverside Theatre - Iowa)
